Before you can start creating a YouTube account, you must sign in to your Google account. (YouTube is owned by Google.) If you do not have an account, that’s okay! You can check out our quick tutorial on How to Create a Google Account.
Sign in to Your Google Account.
If you don’t already have a Google account set up, you’ll need to create one before you get started on YouTube. To do this, simply follow the below steps:

- Click ‘Sign In’
- Now, choose the option to create a Google account
- Follow the steps to create your Google account
Now, you’re all set up with a Google account and can follow the above steps to create a YouTube channel.
1. Click on My Channel.
After signing in to your YouTube account, click on the drop-down arrow next to your avatar in the top right corner. This is the same place where the, “Sign In” button usually is. After you click on the drop-down arrow, a new set of options are made available. The first thing you want to do here is to click on, “My Channel”.
2. Choose Your Channel Name.
Choose to create a new channel or use an existing Brand Account:
- Create a new channel by clicking Create a new channel.
- Create a YouTube channel for a Brand Account that you already manage by choosing the Brand Account from the list. If this Brand Account already has a channel, you can’t create a new one you’ll just be switched over to that channel if you select the Brand Account from the list.
3. How to add your channel icon.
Each channel also has space for a profile icon. Your channel icon shows over your channel art banner. It’s the icon that shows next to your videos and channel on YouTube watch pages. The key here is to select something that will look good at very small resolutions many brands opt to use their logo here.
Your channel icon should be 800 x 800 pixels and one of the following formats: JPG, GIF, BMP or PNG file (no animated GIFs).
To update your channel icon, head to your channel homepage and hover over your current channel icon until you see the edit icon appear. Click on that icon and you’ll be able to upload a new icon:
4. How to add art to your YouTube channel.
If you’re just setting up your YouTube channel, you’ll notice the channel art space is blank with a clear call to action to add your art:
Once you’ve clicked this link, you’ll see a popup window that gives you the option to upload your own custom channel art. If you’d like to, you can also choose to use one of YouTube’s templates from the “Gallery” or choose to upload one of your photos.
5. Connecting Your Account to Social Media.
If you want to connect your YouTube channel to your social media accounts, click on “connected accounts’’ which is under the account settings menu on the left side of your screen.
You can connect your YouTube channel to your Facebook and Twitter profiles. This is used to create statuses on your social media accounts every time you upload a video, like a video or edit your playlist. Be sure to click save once you’re finished!
Plan Your Content
Before even creating your YouTube channel, you’ve probably already decided on the kind of video content that you want to show. The best ways to increase your views and gain followers is still to keep your content interesting and engaging; the more people can relate to it, the more they’ll want to click on it and watch until the end.
